How To Hire A DJ

Hiring the right entertainer for your event is probably the most important decision for the successful outcome of your event! So how do you find the right DJ? Some people view DJ's as a commodity and choose the cheapest one they can find, not knowing there are differences to look for. I've heard numerous horror stories of DJ companies that lure in customers with low prices, only to provide an inexperienced disc jockey with poor people skills, an inferior music library, shoddy equipment, and they either arrive late or don't show at all! This page will help you find the right entertainer! It could make the difference between a memorable event and an unforgettable nightmare!

1)  Do You Provide A Written Agreement?

It is very important to confirm your booking in writing. Terms should be clearly defined to avoid future problems.

2) Are You Insured?

Be confident that the DJ you hire will show up for your affair! Insurance will give security & protection to you and your guests, as well as the DJ and his expensive gear!

3) Do You Have Backup Equipment and DJ's?

Even professional audio equipment can fail on occasion, don't let this put an early end to your affair. Make sure there is backup equipment and be sure there is a back-up DJ should an emergency or case of illness occur.

3) Is Your Equipment of Professional Quality?

There is a difference between home audio and professional road-worthy equipment. The equipment a DJ uses should be built to go on the road each and every day!

4) Will You Listen To My Music Suggestions?

Many DJ's are of the opinion that they know what music is best for their audience and won't take requests. The DJ should listen to requests and play them whenever appropriate.

5) Will You Dress Appropriately at My Affair?
It is important that your entertainer look the part by dressing formal or semi-formal, according to your preference. Themed events and picnics require different attire.

6) Will You Play The Music At An Appropriate Level?
The biggest concern voiced by prospective clients is the volume level of the music. A professional DJ knows to keep the volume at a level appropriate for the guests, especially during cocktails and the dinner hour.

7) Do You Do More Than Just Play Music at the Affair?

Most affairs involve more than playing music. It is important to have a DJ who is capable of playing the music, handling all of the announcements and helps to coordinate the affair.

8) Will You Listen to My Concerns and Input?

A professional DJ is aware that they can't possibly know every aspect of music and entertainment. Your input and suggestions should be welcome!

9) Will You be the dj at the event?

Always find out who the dj will be for the event and ask to meet them before signing anything. Ask how much the dj will be getting paid, so you know what your really getting for the price.

10) Does your company subcontract?
A professional DJ will never subcontract with out telling you prior to you booking your event
   their many ways of subcontracting

1. To take and sell a party to another company
2. To pay an employee a cash deal or as a subcontractor,  this means no taxes off  for the government
3. To hire a company / employee for one day.

Is it good to hire a subcontracting dj  NO WAY look at it this way
if you are paying $675.00 for a company this price is usually set for the owner now if he sends out a employee chances are he is making 1/3 of this so you just got a $225.00 dj for $675.00 does this sound fair?  I thought not.
if a company tells you that he is just a good as me then why is he not being paid like you? a good dj should be gettig atleast 90% of the pay...........+

Conclusion

It is important to find a DJ company with Experience & quality these are the most important factors in hiring your entertainment. You will never be sorry when you invest in quality.
